FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 10, 2025 – Audiobooks have transformed publishing, and now there’s a podcast dedicated to the audio revolution reshaping the industry around the world.
Launching today, The Spoken World podcast will provide in-depth coverage of the
$7 billion global audiobook market, reporting on the latest news and trends in production, distribution, and marketing. Hosted by veteran journalist and podcaster Christopher Kenneally—who has covered publishing and technology for more than two decades—the show is produced by BurstMarketing, a leader in professional podcasting and media production.
“From AI-generated narration to immersive soundscapes, emerging markets to new languages, piracy to platforms—listeners will get the inside scoop on The Spoken World,” said Kenneally, whose work has appeared in The New York Times, NPR, and other top media outlets.
The podcast will feature exclusive interviews with industry leaders, analysts, and innovators from around the world, offering insights into the opportunities and challenges facing the fastest-growing segment of book publishing. Listeners can also expect exclusive recordings from major book fairs and publishing events, including Madrid’s PARIX Audio Day; the London Book Fair; and the Frankfurt Book Fair.
This week at the London Book Fair on Wednesday, March 12, 16:15 GMT, Christopher Kenneally will moderate, “The Podcast Revolution,” a panel discussion with guests Lisa Higginson, Senior Director, UK Content Audible UK, and Nicola Holloway, Senior Content Producer, BBC. The program will be available shortly afterward on The Spoken World podcast.
“Every new study on audio content consumption—whether audiobooks, podcasts, or audio series—shows explosive growth, yet there’s still so much for audio professionals to learn. The Spoken World will be an essential resource for publishers, producers, platforms, and libraries looking to understand the technology and expand their audiences,” said Javier Celaya, founder of Dosdoce.com, a research firm that has published over 300 reports on audiobooks and other publishing technology. Celaya is also chair of The Spoken World Advisory Board.
Global audiobook consumption is soaring. More than half of U.S. adults listened to at least one audiobook last year. In Sweden, 63% of books sold in 2024 were audio. In Germany, 82% of people over 16 stream audio content. France and Spain are also seeing rapid adoption.
The Spoken World podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube Music, Podimo, Amazon Music, Ivoox, and all major podcast and streaming platforms. Learn more at SpokenWorld.Media.
